Candidate for Greenfield
City Councilor-at-Large

Key Issues & Views

  • Housing Affordability: Human beings, especially in New England, simply cannot live without shelter. We must do everything we can to promote access to this basic human right.
  • Complete Streets: The streetscape is one of our most important shared public spaces and should be equally safe for all users, be them drivers, walkers, or bicyclists. This one is literally a matter of life and death.
  • Sustainable Community Development: We need to leverage the investments the citizens of Greenfield made in the past to grow our economic future. This means building “up” whenever possible via infill development on underutilized parking lots. It also means fixing what’s broken and seeking outside support to do so when our resources are limited.
  • Responsive Government: You can’t have a democracy without the people’s representatives being representative. If elected I will do everything I can to ensure that the concerns of citizens are looked at as problems to be solved and not something to be dismissed.
  • Education as a Priority: The foundation of every community is what it decides to invest in its future. The single best investment we can make in Greenfield’s tomorrow is ensuring that our schools have the resources to support the students they serve.

Greenfield is the urban hub and cultural crossroads of our beautiful rural region. I am running for City Council because I believe this is a great city that has the potential to become even better. If elected, I would honor the duties and responsibilities that come with being a public servant.

Greenfield’s relative housing affordability and active community have led many, including my wife and I, to move here. However, the cost of housing continues to rise, and we must act to reduce housing insecurity and homelessness. I support housing solutions that would help to stabilize costs and property taxes, plus put new feet on the street.

I believe in development that improves connectivity. For example, residents should be able to walk or bike safely, take a bus, and access high-speed internet anywhere in the city, any day of the week. I want to work with others to try and make these ideas a reality.

About Me

I was born and raised in western Massachusetts, and I’ve been a resident of the city for more than five years. I’m a high school history teacher in Hatfield. I was co-president of my teacher’s union there for two years, following six years serving on contract negotiation teams. I decided to refocus my civic energies here in Greenfield after getting married and buying a home on Hope Street. My wife and I enjoy hiking, cooking, gardening, and spending time with our pets, George the cat and Maple the dog.

I look forward to meeting you.

P.S. Despite what my campaign photos might suggest, you’ll never see me wearing a suit in Greenfield.
